Brother Label and Receipt printing for Design Manager

This article will cover how to configure a brother 4" printer for labels or receipts in Design Manager Pro Cloud


Instructions to setup Brother TD-4420DN(c) Printer


Steps to install:

  • Download the Brother Driver
  • Install and configure
  • Print a test receipt from Design Manager


Step 1: Download Brother software:

Do not plug in the printer until the driver is installed.



Please browse to Brother website and search for TD-4420DN Printer

Select your operating system, Download the Brother driver, and then double-click the file from your Downloads folder.





Click OK and start driver installation



Plug in USB cable when prompted



Step 2:  Configure Printer


Open windows control panel, right-click on printer and choose Printing Preferences



Set printing preferences, including Paper Size, Length, Inverted, Cut at End



Click Paper Size Setup

Highlight RD 4" and click Edit



Paper Type: Continuous Length Tape

Bottom Margin: 0.0

click Overwrite




Step 3:  Print a test receipt


Open Design Manager, and click Point of Sale.  Verify the Brother printer is selected.



Setup a test customer



Select a stock number to add an item



Enter in a cash payment for this test



Click the Print button from the receipt preview




You can also configure the unit to print barcode labels-  Its recommended to run a manual media calibration after switching the physical media to the 2 x 2.25 sticky label stock or to 4" receipt paper. 


Performing a Manual Feed Calibration (Button Press)
  1. Turn offthe printer.
  2. Press and holdthe Feed/Pause button.
  3. Turn onthe printer while still holding the Feed/Pause button.
  4. Releasethe button when the LED status indicator changes as follows:
    • For Gap Sensor: When the LED changes to red (flashing 5 times) after flashing green 5 times, as detailed in the Brother support instructions.
    • For Black Mark Sensor: When the LED changes to green (lit) after flashing green/red 5 times, as shown in the Brother support instructions.
  5. The printer will then go through a process to detect the media's dimensions. A solid green light indicates successful calibration.




Open the printing preferences, click Paper Size Setup and create a New paper type




Create a paper tyle called Labels

Set options to:

Paper type: Die-Cut Label

Width: 2.25

Length:  2

Label Spacing: 0.12 (can vary by your media stock)


Margin spacing

Left: 0.06

Right 0.04

Top 0.04

Bottom 0.12






Print a Test Label


Launch DM, click Inventory > Inventory Reports > Labels > Stock Item



Select Report Format:  Zebra 2x2.25

Select a stock number and amount of labels

Select the Brother printer
